ONE BOOK, ONE SCHOOL at Johnson ElementaryONE BOOK, ONE SCHOOL at Johnson Elementary

On January 10th students at Johnson Elementary started their Friday with a treat. A morning assembly began with a skit mirroring Johnson’s new ONE BOOK, ONE SCHOOL–“The World According to Humphrey”–about a friendly school janitor that makes friends with a class hamster. Students giggled as they watched Mr. Craig Martin, Johnson’s Fireperson, play the part of Aldo, the janitor in the book who has fun interactions with the class hamster.

After the skit, staff members–including Principal Ines Sem and Assistant Principal Jennifer Dalrymple–put on a surprise flash mob, dancing to the aptly titled ‘Hampster Dance’. Staff pulled gleeful students onto the ‘dance floor’ to participate. Laughter filled the gymnasium where the assembly occurred–almost drowning out the music itself!

The ONE BOOK, ONE SCHOOL initiative will see both Sem and Dalrymple reading aloud passages from the book every day during morning announcements, classroom teachers incorporating the text into their classrooms through read-aloud and small group, and the entire building of Johnson Elementary united under their love of reading.

Way to go Johnson! Check out some of the highlights of the fun-filled assembly below.
