Authors Visit Johnson September 18Los autores visitan a Johnson el 18 de septiembre

On September 18th Johnson School students had the privilege of listening to a presentation by Mary Winn Heider and Chad Sell, the authors of the children’s book “The Stupendous Switcheroo.” The book is about a boy who has super powers that change every 24 hours. Some of the powers are very useful in fighting evil, and some are less than ideal. He never knows what power he will wake up with the next day. The novel is full of lively illustrations and funny moments that children love. The author’s visit is in cooperation with Anderson Book Stores which will be sponsoring book sales at Johnson this year (more information about this will be forthcoming).

During the assembly the students listened to the authors read an excerpt from their story, learned about the authors and how they became friends, heard the idea that sparked the novel, and learned about the steps involved in the writing process. Students then participated in some brainstorming activities with the authors in which a character with two unique superpowers was drawn out on a screen before them. The assembly ended with a very enthusiastic Q & A.

The students did a great job of listening in a large group, interacting with the speakers, and showing their best Johnson Jaguar qualities. The teachers were very proud and the whole school was inspired by the fun and educational morning we had.

El 18 de septiembre los estudiantes de Johnson School tuvieron el privilegio de escuchar una presentación de Mary Winn Heider y Chad Sell, los autores del libro infantil “The Stupendous Switcheroo”. El libro trata de un niño que tiene superpoderes que cambian cada 24 horas. Algunos de los poderes son muy útiles para luchar contra el mal, y otros son menos que ideales. Nunca sabe con qué poder se despertará al día siguiente. La novela está llena de ilustraciones vivas y momentos divertidos que les encantan a los niños. La visita del autor se realiza en colaboración con Anderson Book Stores, que este año patrocinará la venta de libros en Johnson (se dará más información al respecto próximamente).

Durante la asamblea, los estudiantes escucharon a los autores leer un fragmento de su historia, conocieron a los autores y cómo se hicieron amigos, escucharon la idea que dio origen a la novela y aprendieron los pasos del proceso de escritura. Luego, los estudiantes participaron en una lluvia de ideas con los autores en la que dibujaron en un pantalla un personaje con dos superpoderes únicos. La asamblea terminó con una sesión de preguntas y respuestas muy entusiasta.

Los estudiantes hicieron un gran trabajo escuchando en un gran grupo, interactuando con los presentadores y mostrando sus mejores cualidades de Johnson Jaguar. Los maestros estaban muy orgullosos y toda la escuela se sintió inspirada por la mañana divertida y educativa que tuvimos.
